Majnoon Films is an independent production company that works with motion, picture and sound.
It was founded so that I could express myself intimately and authentically, while maintaining autonomy over each aspect of the creative process.
My practice emerges from a curiosity to observe, explore and re-present realities and everyday human behaviours that occur in both public and private spheres. This is hued with my distinct consciousness, weltanschauung and gaze, with which I seek to transcend conventional, sanitised and facile ways of seeing.
I interrogate the dichotomous approach that typically dominates perception and which is used to establish, demarcate and distinguish notions - such as the beautiful from the grotesque, victim from perpetrator, normal from absurd, or reality from illusion. Moreover, I embrace the fragility of such boundaries and instead, seek to traverse the complexities and contradictions that are contained between them. Therein, I find a house of mirrors to the realities of our very own frail humanities.
The work that ensues, may confront and challenge the viewer, but this is not an end in itself. It is informed by a profound concern to arouse both an emotional and cognitive response from the active spectator, and to provide critical space for varieties of imagination, interpretation and discourse to flourish.
